Oracle Fusion Applications 11.1.6 installation – Step by step guide
Fusion Applications 11.1.6 installation is not straightforward unlike E-Business Suite 11i/R12 installation. So we need to divide the installation into following main steps. Please note that we have changed the default order since we are going to host both RCU in one database which is fine since both have different schemas. This will save us a lot of Memory for the VM or Host.
Important Note:
If you are looking for Latest Fusion Applications 11.1.8 installation steps then you can refer to following link.
If you are looking for Fusion Applications 11.1.5 installation steps then you can refer to following link.
Please note that we will be performing two node installation this time with following components installed on each node.
Node 1 includes Oracle Identity and Access Management and database
Node 2 includes Fusion Applications domains
Please look at my previous article at http://www.oratraining.com/blog/2013/03/fusion-applications-architecture-for-2-node-setup/ for more details on architecture this setup
Preparing for Oracle Fusion Applications installation
- Downloading Oracle Fusion Applications media
- Creating Oracle VirtualBox Virtual Machine with Oracle Linux
OR
Install Oracle Linux or Solaris on a Physical machine (We are using physical machine with Oracle Linux this time)
3. Staging/Creating Oracle Fusion Applications provisioning repository
Installing Oracle Fusion Applications – steps
- Install Fusion Applications Provisioning Framework
- Install Oracle 11g Database (Applications Transactional Database)
- Run Oracle Fusion Applications Repository Creation Utility (Applications RCU)
- Create another database for Oracle Identity Management Infrastructure (optional)
- Run Repository Creation Utility (RCU) for Oracle Identity Management components
- Install Oracle Identity and Access Management Components
- Apply mandatory Patches
- Configure Oracle Identity and Access Management components
- Integrate Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) and Oracle Access Manager (OAM)
- Install provisioning framework on Node 2
- Create new Response File
- Provision an Applications Environment
We are going to install Fusion Applications 11.1.6 for Oracle Linux x86-64 Operating system. So we will download the installation media for Oracle Fusion Applications 11.1.6 for Linux x86-64 fromhttp://edelivery.oracle.com
Login to access the following screen.
Select “Oracle Fusion Applications” and required platform from the list. Click Go. Open the first pack.
Download the first 17 media files (excluding README and documentation library). We will not need rest of the media for this installation. Unzip all these files into one Stage directory.
Important Note: Since some of the files have very long directory path (very close to 255 characters), please unzip these files into stage folder name to keep short name. At least 2 files have very long path so let us try to avoid this.
We must have OS installed either on physical or a virtual machine in order to proceed with the installation.
Note: We can also use VMWare to host the Virtual Machine. We will post another guide on setting up VMWare virtual machine. But the good thing is that the virtual machine/disks which we create in VirtualBox, same we can use in VMWare as well since we will create .vmdk format disks. This will add flexibility for you to use it anywhere later.
We are using following configuration for our 2 nodes installation.
Server: Oracle Identity and Access Management & Database on Linux x86-64 VM (8GB RAM)
Oracle Fusion Applications 11.1.6 on Physical server – HP ML350 with 64 GB RAM
OS: Oracle Linux 5.9 64 bit
Memory: 64GB RAM (More the memory, smoother the installation)
Swap disk: 100 GB
Local available Disk space: 300 GB on both servers (VM and Physical)
Dear Tushar,
Hope you are doing good.
Unlike the E-Business Suite 12.2.4, do you have ready made VM so that we can just plug in into oracle virtual box.
Or could you provide some installation guide which describse from the step by step.
I am more likely looking the readymade VM for the Oracle Fusion Application,
if you have please let me know

Thanks

I need step by step and which softwars and which one instal first and step by step.
Thanks,
Venkat
Hi Tushar,
Thanks for providing all the useful information regarding the installation procedures. I am new to it and i want to do a DEMO installation. I need to know if at all :
>There is a possibility of a FA release to be certified on Windows machine?
>We can install it on a single node if it is in linux 64?
>Minimum storage/memory specs can be pre-determined?
Thanks,
Anmol
Hi Tushar,
I have asked the above because in e-delivery i can see release 11.1.6.0.0 is available for Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) but for which version of windows, i don’t know and more over in MOS, when i check platforms for the same release i am not getting windows anywhere.
Thanks,
Anmol

Dear Tushar
Thanks for the great information you published here. I’m new in the fusion confusion world, I’m have ebusiness and DBA background and we are in the process of implementing Fusion Apps HCM 11.1.1.8 on premises. I will use your site as a starting point, I’m wondering if there are any pre patches is required before starting the installation? And do I just follow your 11.1.1.7 instructions for 11.1.1.8 for a 2 nodes configuration?
Can I also have the link to download your VM?
Thanks very much in advanced.
Nancy
Hi Tushar,
I am planning to buy the system required for the installation.
Could you please give me the mininmum system requirements apart from the menory and HD space. Do we need to have any specific processor etc.
Thanks

Hi Tushar,
How to install Oracle fusion application on windows server 64 bit (OS).
Thanks,
Vikash
Been working on R7. Any chance you will publish R7 soon?
Thanks Tushar
Very soon. Right now on a vacation and will be back in 10 days and then will immediately start working on 11.1.7 and post steps as separate post.
– Tushar
Thanks Tushar. Looking forward to it.
One of the differences is provisioning is being offered for IDM in R7. IDM & FA database must be on two separate VM.
Hi,
Is there a difference between fusion 11.1.6 and fusion 11.1.7 from installation perpective?
Regards,
Sagar
Hi Tushar,
1. Is the same approach we are following for 11.1.5 and 11.1.6 installation( Sorry I am bit confuse in this process) to install in laptop ?
Hi Tushar,
Trying to understand OTBI for Fusion HCM, found that OTBI is installed when Fusion HCM is installed.
I would like to know if I can install only Fusion HCM (ofcourse with OTBI) on Linux VM on a winodws 7 professional 64 bit with 8GB RAM? Also, would like to install OBIA 11g to be able to integrate OTBI with OBIA. Is it all seem to be feasible?
Thaks
Babu
Could you please let me know the hardware requirement to install Fusion applications.
Hi,
The FA installation requirement as per our steps is following. I am only mentioning memory requirements here since that is the most important aspect to consider.
Node 1: Minimum 16 GB
Node 2: Minimum 64 GB for provisioning 1 module. If you want to provision multiple product families then 96 GB or more.
Again, this is not as per Oracle but as per these steps where we have used single node for IDM and single node for FA and optional IDM components are not installed.
Regards
Tushar
hi, did you use NFS mounted filesystem for both nodes? the oracle analyst is saying create a nfs mounted filesystem on both nodes and install everything on that share filesystem. is that what you did? thx
Dear Pwat,
The shared disk recommendation from Oracle is for cluster nodes which usually we implement in production. So in that case our node 1 (IDM1) components themselves would have another cluster node (IDM2) but since we are only showcasing the installation for learning purpose we are not using another cluster node here.
While FA node is totally independent of IDM node and there also you can have multiple nodes if you need but our solution is very simple for POC and learning purpose. Both have no components in common so having NFS shared disks will not make any difference.
Regards
Tushar
Hi Tushar,
” Oracle Fusion Applications 11.1.6 on Physical server – HP ML350 with 64 GB RAM ” … So all the 8 modules (HCM, CRM,Financials….) can be installed and run in 64 GB RAM for demo?
Rgds
No dear, 64 GB RAM is sufficient for one Module. But please note that even if you select one module, many managed servers from at least 4-6 other modules/domains will be selected automatically. If you want all of them together, I would suggest to go with 128 GB (thought 96 may work with tuning). This is on top of 10-12 GB for IDM node.
Thanks
Tushar
Thanks Tushar…

Hi Tushar,
Is it possible to install one module possible on Two Machines with 32 GB RAM each this doesnt include IDM.

Hi Guys,
I am trying to use provisioningWizard.shbut it gives me below error and comes out. I have set JAVA_HOME correctly already.
/fusion/home1/provisioning/bin$ *** Checking java and fusion repository setting…
*** Error: Fusion Repository is not set in the plan or the override.
Thanks,

Dear Sunil,
If you have set your Fusion Repository on a external mount point then make sure that the mount point is available. You can also manually check if your fusion repository (parent stage directory for installers) exists and is correctly mentioned in your response file.
Thanks
Tushar
Hi Tushar,
yes the directories are there and I see contents also. Only thing is that I am trying to install it on Ubuntu, and it does show me O.S. pre-reqs issue but I ignore them . I am trying to install oracle Linux but it doesn’t detect the nic card of pc.
Thanks

Hi Tusar,
It’s really hard to find this kind of documentation for Fusion Application. and this is the only one i have found in the internet. I really appreciate the work you done.
my question here is we are proceeding with Oracle fusion applications installation with a server (64GB RAM and 500gb Hard disk) and taking only one module HCM for our inhouse use.(just for demo installation and practice for our team. so do you think Is this enough hardware to proceed for the installation.
Can you please guide me with this
Thanks in advance
Hey Tushar,
First of all let me thank you for great blog with so much information on Fusion (whish is relatively new for most of us).
Question:
Do you know/have a demo instance on similar lines as Solution Beacon, where we can access and evaluate before making a decision to go for that S/W?
Any pointers to demo instance (or pay per usage) appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Kumar
Hi,
We are installing Oracle Fusion Application 11.1.6 in OEL 5.8 x_64 bin environment. We have to apply a patch( Patch no . 13399365) as we are facing ADF error while saving the security question in oam console. The Opatch is successful but the build is failed in post installation step . But we have the same problem in Fusion apps 11.1.5 and it is working fine. So we try to start the wls_oim1 managed server. But the process is failed as the server moved to admin state . Getting following error in the wls_oim1 log file
<Failed to initialize the application 'oim [Version=11.1.1.3.0]' due to error java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (oracle.security.jps.service.credstore.CredentialAccessPermission context=SYSTEM,mapName=oim, keyName=OIMSchemaPassword read).

But no success. I have also found that the following module is in admin state in the Deployments tabs in Weblogic console : Nexaweb, OIMMetadata (11.1.1.3.0), oracle.grcc.oaacg(8.6.1,8.6.1) , org.bouncycastle.bcprovider(1.1,1.36.0) , RoleSOD , spml-xsd
Dear Sayan,
Since you have not yet completed the post step for this patch, please review the weblogic.profile and make sure that following values are correctly mentioned as per your environment.
operationsDB.user=FA_OIM
OIM.DBPassword=
use patch_weblogic.sh (for widnows .bat) to apply the post step. Restart OIM and see if it starts fine.

I’m trying to install Fusion 11.1.1.6 on windows 7 64 bit machine. But all ways fails at configuring OID.
Its a fresh new installation after the RCU run, it still fails saying

Dear Adhi,
First of all, Windows 7 64 bit is not certified with Oracle Fusion Applications. So I suggest you use Windows 2008 R2 64 bit instead if available.
Other than that, this particular error can appear if you have used default OID port 389 instead of non-admin port 3060.
Thanks
Tushar
Hello Tushar,
Lucky to visit this page. You did a nice job. I was able to finish my install by changing the OID port to 3060 and SSL port to 3131. My question would be, can we run OID on the default ports 389 and 636.
Thanks.

Hello,
What is the minimum hardware (RAM,processors, disk) requirement if we just want to setup fusion crm?
I know Oracle has mentioned to contact them for this. But we are just installing it inhouse for training purposes.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Diwakar
Dear Diwakar,
For Identity and Access management node with database requires minimum 8-10 GB RAM (with reduced database SGA size). While the Fusion Applications node requires 64GB RAM for CRM as you can see it has many weblogic server instances.
More technical details are coming soon.
Thanks
Tushar
Hey Tushar,
Thanks so much for your response. Any specific requirements for procesors? We have a 16 thread cpu on one of our test servers, do you think that would be enough?
Will watch out for more details
Thanks
Diwakar
Where are your instructions for a single node install? How much memory is needed. I only want to setup a demo instance.
Great blog! Thanks for the informational post! I would recommend your blog as one of the top informational oracle training blogs! Keep up the great work and check out my blog, coming soon:
Can anyone pls tell me the clear installation procedure of Oracle fusion applications version-11.1.6 in windows environment, especially the provisioning framework installation?
Hi Tushar,
Can we install GL as a stand alone component of Oracle Fusion Applications like accounting hub? Do we need to install complete financial package of fusion applications for GL module?
Thanks,
Sagar
Dear Sagar,
Please refer to following post for understanding how we can install only one product of a product family and later configure new product in same family using functional setup manager. Since you want to install only part of a product family (though you need to select from “available/listed” choices only at the moment), it is possible.

Tushar
Hi Tushar,
Went through the above post. It is a generic post.
To be more specific we want to know if we can install GL component alone or this compoenent needs to be installed with complete Fusion Financials package?
Can you provide the screenshot to select GL component only?
thanks
Sagar
Dear Sagar,
As I said, you can only select from available product offerings which will be available for selection during creating response file.
At the moment (11.1.6) you can only select from following products. GL as individual product is so far not available for selection.
– Oracle Fusion Customer Relationship Management (Sales and Marketing)
– Oracle Fusion Financials (Financials, Oracle Fusion Procurement, and Oracle Fusion Projects)
– Oracle Fusion Human Capital Management (Workforce Deployment, Workforce Development, and Compensation Management)
– Oracle Fusion Supply Chain Management (Product Management, Order Orchestration, Material Management and Logistics)
Also you can choose from following standalone products
– Customer Data Hub
– Enterprise Contracts
– Oracle Fusion Accounting Hub
– Oracle Fusion Incentive Compensation
Regards
Tushar
Hi Tushar,
I would like to install Oracle Fusion Incentive Compensation only. What do you suggest for the hardware requirement for this?
Min RAM?
Processor speed?
Appreciate your comments.
Thanks
Srini
I need the clear pre-installation steps of oracle fusion application
Hi Tushar,
Do you have any DEMO for webtier in DMZ configuration or how we go about installaling webtier in DMZ with your current two node setup that is extending current setup to have DMZ.
Regards,
Ashish
Hi Ashish,
As I have mentioned earlier on the post as well as comments, please do not use only 2 node configuration for Production system. The guide presented here is only for testing the fusion apps. When you talk about DMZ, you most likely are talking about production.
Nevertheless, as you know since DMZ node resides outside the internal firewall, it must not have any access to the shared storage. You will specify whether you are installing web server in DMZ or internal network on following screen of response file creation.
http://www.oratraining.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/010213_0915_CreatenewRe16.png
You must install provisioning framework separately on DMZ and initiate all provisioning phases on the DMZ node as well (except until preverify phase which you can skip using ignoreSysPrereqs option). Also after install phase completes on primary host, you might need to copy files like webtier_dmz_artifacts.zip on DMZ node since it does not have access to shared storage.
There are many steps involved for DMZ setup in Fusion Apps installation. May be I will post a separate article on this later but if you are starting now please follow latest installation guide from oracle for DMZ related steps.
Thanks
Tushar
Hi Tushar,
—- Does Oracle Fusion applications media pack comes with fusion middleware components or we need to separately download them and put it in installers directory along with fusion applications?
—- Do have any idea as to how many domains and managed servers will be created if we need to install standalone Oracle Fusion accounting hub component?
Thanks,
Ashish
Dear Ashish,
Yes all required Fusion middleware components and required patches (except newly added in release notes or as per latest/updated middleware installation guide) are bundled with Fusion Applications installer. You can also choose to download and install latest middleware after checking certification status but I would suggest to go with the one included in the installer itself. You can see my posts for the location of each of these components.
Regarding Oracle Fusion accounting hub, it is one of the smallest configuration we can choose (as on today) in Fusion Applications installation. BUT, it does not mean that it will only create 1 domain and managed servers for it. This also creates approx 4-5 domains and many managed servers. I don’t exactly remember the count but you can easily check it when you start response file creation. It will show number of domains and admin/managed servers created for each configuration.
Check following screenshots to see where exactly it shows the count.

Thanks Tushar it was very helpful..
If we are to go for standalone Fusion accounting hub installation(DEV intance) using two nodes, will it be wise to have one node for Oracle Identity Management, middleware components & its DB and other node for fusion accounting hub(Fusion applications) & its DB. So we have two separate databases for OIM and Fusion applications or do you suggest any other way considering load on the servers.
Thanks,
Ashish
I understand the reason why you want to keep this way, to avoid the communication delay since the DB for required components will be on same box. But this all depends on how good specs you have for the server. Also in my blog I have shown database schemas of both components on single instance so that the memory requirement for another instance is reduced.
You can surely do this if you have sufficient memory but I would recommend using different “host name” for each DB even though you can resolve both names to same IP. This will help you in case if in future you want to relocate the DB to separate box, so you just need to move DB and point the hostname to new IP.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I want to know if OS RHEL 6.0 certified for Fusion applications 11.1.5 and 11.1.6 and 11.1.1.6 middleware components?
Regards,
Sandesh
Yes Fusion Applications 11.1.5 and 11.1.6 both are certified with RedHat Enterprise Linux 6 x86-64 update 1 and above. However they are not certified with RHEL 6 x86
Hi Tushar,
In which document I can find the certification matrix information of Oracle fusion 11.1.6 installation on RHEL 6.0 OS?
Regards,
Sandesh
Dear Sandesh,
Login to Oracle Support and click on certifications. You will see all matrix there.
Thanks
